Welcome to The Gatehouse today! Last week, we started to explore dieselpunk architecture with features of New York City’s RCA Building and Times Square. Stefan from Paris contributed an artwork of his own to our mini-series, entitled “ Underworld.” Stay tuned, for Chicago is next! As you may have noticed, the sidebar of the blog now features the latest two photographs uploaded to the Steampunk Fashion group on flickr. Our own HildeKitten of House of Secrets Incorporated maintains this pool where everyone with a flickr account can add pictures to. We looked the other way for a moment and all of the sudden the newest steampunk ezine, Exhibition Hall has produced two new editions! They continue to cover events, feature interviews with designers and steampunk personalities of note as well as reviews of the lesser known works of steampunk fiction. Click here for a complete overview of all the issues that they have released so far and prepare for their fourth publication which is scheduled for release 1 December. If you have been enjoying Sjón Refur’s Cinema is Cinema be sure to add the companion edition to this blog to your reading list. Here the author provides less formal observations about recently-watched films and reviews of motion pictures that do not quite fall within the scope of Golden Era cinema. Most of dieselpunk fiction seems to ignore the Great Depression of the 1930s. Either it takes place during something of a prolonged Roaring Twenties era or in a post-apocalyptic setting that goes far beyond the hardships of an economic downturn. Is there a place for the Depression in dieselpunk nevertheless? That is the question Mr Xianar asks at our forums, the Smoking Lounge. Please, share your views! If you are the mood for something old-fashioned, visit Chronically Vintage: a cute little blog maintained by one Jessica Cangiano and updated almost every day with photographs and ephemera from the 1930s through the 1950s.

...was relatively lucky as most days go. I left work at 6pm after doing overtime the rest of the week, two days of which we left at 5am and 2:30am, respectively. Manager treated us to lunch in Gumbo for our work, and I am getting reimbursed for my taxi rides home (to make up for not getting OT allowance, as I hardly get to work before 8:40).
Nah, I don't think I'm quitting this job.
Also had Peking duck for dinner with the family in Trinoma, which is awesome, but I rather hated Trinoma that day because their midnight sale kept us there till 11:30, at which point I was too sabog to even walk properly. But hey, at least I left work early!
I said I'd watch Twilight today so I can watch New Moon with my officemates on Friday. I can't seem to get around to it though hahaha
It was also our halfsary (y'know, half a year, six months, and so on) a couple of days ago. Milestones are nice. We ate in My Thai in SM Fairview yesterday, which is already upscale for us (as we usually have fastfood or food court food, cheap eh), but we were pretty happy with the food. I thought it would be spicier, Thai food being Thai food, and he wanted more shrimps on the Pad Thai noodles (an extra 30 pesos for two shrimps, what). But we were satisfied on the whole.
Cliches are cliche for a reason: time really does fly when you're having fun. ♥- Mood:satisfied

I <3 Lev Grossman. In an interview by Zack Smith for Newsarama, he said, of his new book The Magicians, I’m only putting in formally-published form the oldest, most basic tropes of fan fiction. In Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield called the album Them Crooked Vultures fan fiction with a classic-rock heart. On New York Magazine's Vulture blog, Nick Catucci referred to a recent episode of 30 Rock as pure fan fiction, minus the part where he tells her to take off everything but her glasses. On Examiner, Anthony Strain wrote that a plot element of the 11/09 episode of Gossip Girls has totally been done before, if you count certain kinds of fan fiction. The (Lewis County, Washington) Chronicle's Carrina Stanton reviewed a Centralia College production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, a [Peanuts] fan fiction by Bert V. Royal. Neely Tucker's piece on recent pro fanfic continues to bounce around the world. ( In Twilight news… )Finally, in the Weekly World News, Reginald Cunningham III reported that Joseph Cao, the only Republican to vote for the health care bill, in a particularly embarrassing incident […] accidentally distributed to Congress a copy of his Twilight fan fiction.(Cross-posted to http://as-others-see-us.dreamwidth.org/7761.html.)

A couple of weeks ago, I asked for help putting together a steampunk outfit for a Halloween costume. I didn't have much time/money to do too many additions, but I think it turned out okay anyway. Today, some friends of mine and myself got together for a photo shoot at a local college campus. I thought you might be interested in seeing the finished product, though I do apologize that I'm not necessarily the best model. ( Fairly large pictures behind the cut. )Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

I finished my new patch-work winter skirt. I'm thinking maybe I'll be Cinderella with some clockwork mice that do all my work. I want an under-bust corset to go with it, but that will have to wait until all the gift giving holidays are over.

(First, OMG, Yuletide! Yay! But getting my assignment made me realize that I had not yet posted a Yuletide letter, so let me postpone my squee until later - or direct it toward the ginger cake I'm going to try to make again - and go on and do that. In between trips to the kitchen to carry on with the baking.) ( Dear Yuletide Author, )Okay, now I will go back to the kitchen and see if I can scrounge enough sugar to make some pumpkin bread. And squee (quietly) about Yuletide while finishing off my gingerbread dinner with gingerbread dessert. :D

The newest outfit for my daughter, for a steamy zoo expedition tomorrow: The skirt is made from the same pattern I used to make her red and black outfit for SteamCon. The vest was made from Simplicity 2484. The boots and shirt are from Target, although I tea-dyed the shirt from its original white cotton state. This was the "test run" of the outfit, to make sure the pieces were coming together. Once we knew everything fit and worked with each other, I added some antique mother of pearl buttons to the vest, and some lace to the collar and cuffs of the shirt, but it got too dark for another picture.
